Home Solar Panels: Installation and Aftercare

MCS-accredited Solar PV installation with genuine aftercare from an established business.

SPI Renewables installs solar panels for homeowners who want the job done properly. Honest projections, quality installation and a long-term aftercare relationship, not a sale-and-walk-away service.

Investing Home Solar Panels: the Cost vs the Savings

Energy bills have risen significantly and solar panel costs have fallen. But is the investment in home solar panels worth it?

The 0% VAT rate on residential solar panels reduces the upfront outlay, and the Smart Export Guarantee pays you for every unit you generate and do not use. .

This means that for most well-designed home solar PV installations at current energy prices, payback periods fall in the 6 to 10 year range with a system lifetime of 25 years or more.

The financial case is strong. The bigger question is who you trust to install it. The domestic solar market contains a large number of businesses that are better at selling than installing, and that disappear once the job is done. SPI Renewables has been trading since 2009. We install systems, then we are prepared to continue to support you with our aftercare and maintenance services.

What Home Solar Panels Deliver for You

Lower Energy Bills

Generate your own electricity during daylight hours and reduce what you purchase from the grid. Every unit you generate and consume directly is a unit you do not pay your energy supplier for.

Export Income

Surplus generation that your household does not use is exported to the grid and earns Smart Export Guarantee payments. SPI helps you register with the most favourable SEG tariff at commissioning.

Energy Independence

Generating your own power reduces your exposure to grid tariff volatility. Combined with battery storage, you can use your own generation around the clock, not just when the sun is shining.

What Makes a Good Home Solar Panel Installation

The quality of a solar installation is not visible from the outside. Two systems on identical roofs with identical panels can perform very differently depending on how they were designed, installed and commissioned.

SPI designs every home solar system around the specific property. Roof orientation, pitch, shading analysis, household energy consumption and the homeowner’s priorities all inform the design. We do not apply a standard package regardless of context. We produce honest generation projections based on your actual roof and local irradiance data, not industry averages adjusted to make the sale look better.

Installation is carried out by our own MCS-accredited engineers. We commission the system fully before we leave and set up remote monitoring from day one. If performance drops, we know about it. The aftercare relationship begins at installation, not ends there.

FAQs

How many solar panels do I need for my home?

This depends on your roof size, orientation and household energy consumption. SPI sizes systems based on your actual energy data, not a standard assumption. A survey is the right starting point.

Do domestic solar panels work on cloudy days?

Yes. Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. Output is lower on overcast days but generation continues throughout the year.

How long do home solar panels last?

Quality solar panels are typically warranted for 25 years and have an expected useful life beyond that with gradual performance degradation. The key is choosing panels from manufacturers with a credible long-term track record.

Will solar panels damage the roof on my house?

A properly designed and installed solar system does not damage your roof. SPI carries out a structural assessment at survey stage and uses mounting systems appropriate for your roof type.

What if I want to add battery storage later?

Battery storage can be added to most home solar installations as a retrofit. SPI assesses your existing system and recommends the most appropriate storage solution.
