No. SPI can add solar panels to an existing heat pump installation, or advise on solar panels as part of a planned heat pump installation. Installing both at the same time has practical advantages but is not required.

Does solar generated power cover heat pump running costs fully?

This depends on your system sizes, your heating demand and your location. In summer months, solar power can cover a significant proportion of heat pump running costs. In winter, when heating demand is highest and solar power generation is lowest, the contribution is more limited. SPI models this honestly as part of the assessment.

Do I need battery storage for solar panel and heat pump integration to work?

Battery storage improves the benefit, particularly for extending solar-powered heat pump operation into the morning and evening. It is not essential, but for homes with significant heating demand it is usually worth considering..

Can solar panels power underfloor heating?

Yes, where underfloor heating is powered by a heat pump. Solar generated power can contribute to the heat pump’s electricity consumption in the same way as for any other heat pump system.
